What happens to my Audi when it’s scrapped?

When your Audi is scrapped at an Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF), a careful process is followed to ensure it’s done in an environmentally responsible manner. Once your car arrives at one of our sites, we start by removing any products, chemicals, and parts that can be recycled, as required by law.

The first step involves taking off the wheels. The tyres are separated and either recycled or upcycled into items like astroturf or underlay. The wheels themselves can be recycled, sold, or melted down to be reused in various new products.

Next, we remove other parts of the car, such as the lights and wing mirrors, which can also be sold, recycled, or upcycled. A key part of scrapping your car is the de-pollution process, where all fluids, like fuel, coolant, engine oil, and steering fluid, are drained and stored for recycling or resale.

After de-pollution, the car is flipped over using a forklift so that the back axle, made from a higher grade of steel, and the engine, which contains valuable metals like copper and aluminium, can be removed. Finally, the remaining metal is crushed to reduce its volume, making it easier to recycle. This process ensures that your car is scrapped efficiently, with as many parts as possible being reused or recycled.
